The Unique & Unexpected
When the flamboyant and eccentric seek spectacular collectibles, they turn to Tiffany. In 1868, P.T. Barnum, the circus showman, ordered a miniature jeweled silver horse carriage as a gift for the 2’11” General Tom Thumb and his bride. In 1891, Harry Houdini, magician and escape artist, was presented with a diamond-studded Tiffany pocket watch with a chain made of tiny gold handcuffs. During the Gilded Age, tycoon Diamond Jim Brady frequently commissioned Tiffany to design custom pieces, including a gold chamber pot for his beloved, actress Lillian Russell.
